Museum Breastplate

Appearances: S1: Rogue

In early 2002, the Metropolis Museum had had on display a jeweled breastplate said to belong to Alexander the Great and valued at ten million dollars. After rogue cop Sam Phelan had witnessed what Clark Kent could do, he'd decided to use Clark's abilities to his advantage. He'd first coerced Clark into helping him steal a file IAB had on Phelan, but Clark had instead dropped the safe with the file on Phelan's car, setting off alarms and alerting authorities. So, Phelan had framed Clark's father Jonathan for murder, but had offered to exonerate him if Clark had helped him retrieve the breastplate from the museum, calling it his "retirement fund." Rather than steal the breastplate, though, Clark had waited until Phelan's fingerprints were on it, then had tossed the breastplate outside, where Lex Luthor and the authorities had been waiting. Clark had then supersped away, leaving Phelan to get into a shoot-out with authorities and become fatally wounded.
