Rage
Lois and Oliver are in the latter's clocktower apartment, clearly having returned there from a date. They're making out passionately, when Lois excuses herself to go change, insisting she has a surprise for him. While waiting on her surprise, though, Oliver overhears a carjacking in progress on the street below. Quickly changing into his Green Arrow get-up, he confronts the thugs, saving a young couple that was being carjacked but getting shot in the chest for his troubles. While Lois comes out of the bedroom in only a dress shirt, confused as to where Oliver disappeared to, Oliver lies in the street, bleeding out.
The next day, at the Kent Farm, Clark and Martha are returning home, laden with groceries. Clark remarks that they bought enough food to feed a small army, and that's when Martha reveals that she was planning on inviting a few people over for Thanksgiving. Clark, however, would rather keep the holiday "low-key," as it's their first Thanksgiving without Jonathan. Understandably, Clark's not feeling very thankful. He says that Jonathan always made sure that Clark was thankful for his abilities, but laments that if he was normal, Jonathan would still be there, carving the turkey with his father's old carving knife. Just then, Lois arrives. She tells the Kents that they can scratch Oliver off the invite list, explaining that he disappeared on her in the middle of a date and that she'll be flying solo from here on out. Clark tries to assure her that she'll find someone better suited for her, but Lois is already switching gears, telling them all about the Green Arrow being shot. Apparently, someone had gone to get the Green Arrow help, and when they'd returned, all that was left was a bloodstain. Meanwhile, at the Luthor Mansion, Lana tells Lex that she found a charitable organization she wants to focus her time and attention on, the Second Chance Halfway House. She says that she overheard Lex mentioning it on the phone, and after reading through a brochure she found, she determined it to be a worthy cause. Lex, however, points out that she'd be in contact with violent criminals recently released from prison, and is adamant that she pick some other organization to focus on, for her own protection. At Oliver's apartment, meanwhile, Clark finds Oliver lifting weights, seemingly unharmed from his encounter with the carjackers. Clark mentions the news article on the Green Arrow getting shot, but Oliver retorts that he's not bulletproof like Clark and therefore, if he had been shot, he would be lying in either the hospital or the morgue. Clark then notices Oliver's Green Arrow gear lying around where anyone could see, and Oliver says that he was uploading footage of the carjackers, taken via a camera in his sunglasses. Clark tells him he needs to be more careful with his gear, as Lois could've walked in and discovered his secret, but Oliver's not in the mood to be lectured. He says there's a crime wave in Metropolis, and suggests that Clark get off his ass and use his powers for something other than baling hay. He adds that he doesn't need advice from someone whose only worry is protecting his identity, unlike Oliver, who goes around risking his life trying to protect people. In a fit of rage, Oliver breaks a glass of water in his hand, cutting his palm. He yells at Clark to leave, but then, pulls out a syringe as soon as he's alone, injecting himself with something that seems to heal the palm of his hand. Inside the clocktower's elevator, Clark uses his x-ray vision, and sees Oliver injecting himself.
Later, Clark goes to Lois's apartment to warn her to stay away from Oliver. He explains that he went to go talk with him, and lies that he found a needle and syringe in Oliver's apartment. Thinking Oliver has a garden-variety substance abuse problem, Lois instantly feels bad for Oliver, remembering that the holidays are hard for him without his parents. Clark warns that Oliver's not himself right now, explaining that he's behaving very erratically, but Lois refuses to abandon Oliver when he needs her most. Meanwhile, in a lab, Oliver meets with a Dr. Pamela Black, who's apparently been developing a drug called RL65, with funding supplied by Oliver. He praises the drug, saying it works perfectly, but she tells him to stop taking it, as the lab mice have been exhibiting "irrational cognitive behavior" as well as "violent tendencies." Clearly not knowing that he's the Green Arrow, she says that his rich-boy recreational activities aren't worth possible psychosis. Oliver, however, feels that they're on the verge of a medical breakthrough that could save countless lives and he's more than happy to be the guinea pig. He assures her he can handle the "occasional temper tantrum," and grabs a few vials of RL65 to take with him. Back at the Kent Farm, meanwhile, Lionel arrives to tell Martha he won't be attending Thanksgiving dinner, as he feels that the holiday will be hard enough for Clark without added complications. Martha insists that he's not a complication, and that she's very thankful he's a part of her life. Touched, Lionel almost kisses Martha, but then apologizes and quickly leaves. Meanwhile, at the Daily Planet, Clark asks Chloe to look into Oliver's drug use, bringing her a used syringe from Oliver's apartment to run. She agrees to message a bio-chem buddy of hers from Met U, just as Lana arrives, apparently for a lunch date with Chloe. Chloe tries to hurry Clark along his way, but he and Lana run into each other anyway, and things get awkward for a moment. Clark finally leaves, but before Chloe and Lana head to lunch, Lana asks Chloe to look into the Second Chance Halfway House to help her figure out why Lex is so opposed to her volunteering there. However, while Chloe starts researching the organization, Lana faints right there in the bullpen. When she comes to, she insists that she's fine, and asks Chloe not to say anything about her fainting spell, as she wouldn't want anyone — Lex, presumably — to worry about her. That night, in Oliver's apartment, Oliver prepares to go out in his Green Arrow get-up, grabbing a couple of vials of RL65 for the road. As he does so, Lois arrives, sees the Green Arrow, and sneaks up behind him, grabbing a dumbbell off a weight rack and hitting him in the shoulder. He instantly reacts by shoving her into a glass table, before realizing what he's done. As she lies there, injured, she dials 9-1-1, forcing him to flee.
Meanwhile, at Metropolis General, Lana sees a doctor about her fainting spell, revealing she's had three of them in the last month along with migraines. The doctor says they should know more after a running a few tests. In the meantime, Martha visits Lionel at his office at LuthorCorp. He once again apologizes for nearly kissing her, but she assures him that he did nothing wrong. She admits that there is something between the two of them, but that she's not ready yet to find out what that is. However, she says she values their relationship, and that she really wants him to be with her for Thanksgiving. That's when Lionel finally accepts the invitation. Back at Metropolis General, meanwhile, Clark visits Lois in the hospital. She tells Clark that she found the Green Arrow pulling a "reverse Santa Claus" on Oliver's apartment and confronted him. Clark asks if Oliver's been to visit her, and she says she hasn't been able to get a hold of him. She worries that he's either on a bender or that the Green Arrow has gotten to him. Clark promises to track Oliver down, but Lois doesn't have much confidence in him and calls Chloe. Elsewhere, Oliver-as-Green-Arrow tracks down the thug who shot him, confronting him on a rooftop. He threatens the thug with a crossbow, but the thug simply walks off the building, miraculously surviving the fall. Oliver demands to know how he survived that, roughing him up a little to get him to talk. The thug eventually reveals that he lives in a halfway house, and that a female doctor comes by to give him and the other residents shots that the doctor calls vitamins. Meanwhile, in Dr. Black's lab, Lex finds Dr. Black destroying vials of RL65. Apparently, Lex had co-opted Dr. Black from Oliver, initially out of petty rivalry but now he's genuinely interested in helping her continue her research. She says that the project is being shut down, not because of Oliver but because she refuses to be responsible for anymore violence. She then says she's going back to the drawing board, but Lex replies that he can't let her do that. Meanwhile, Clark returns to the Daily Planet, and gives Chloe an update on her cousin. She, in turn, reveals what her buddy at Met U had learned from Oliver's syringe: the drug is supposed to help with tissue regeneration, but also triggers aggressive behavior. Chloe also reveals that Dr. Pamela Black is the one developing the drug for Queen Industries. Later, Clark and Chloe visit Dr. Black's lab, only to find Dr. Black dead and the place ransacked. Clark doesn't believe that Oliver would be behind the scientist's death, but an arrow on the scene seems to implicate the Green Arrow. However, Clark finds evidence that Lex had co-opted Dr. Black from Oliver, and worries that Oliver may be going after Lex because of it. So, Clark goes looking for Lex at the Luthor Mansion, only to find Lana by herself in front of the fireplace in Lex's study. Noticing she's upset about something, he asks if she's okay, and assures her that she can talk to him. She cryptically says that she wishes she could go back in time and have everything be different. Clark asks what Lex did to her, and she replies that Lex didn't do anything. Clark offers to help Lana with whatever it is, but she tells him that it has nothing to do with him and asks him to leave.
At LuthorCorp, meanwhile, Lex is getting ready to head home, when the Green Arrow shows up and holds him at arrowpoint. He accuses Lex of experimenting on the halfway house residents and killing Dr. Black to cover his tracks; Lex, of course, denies it. The Green Arrow then tries to coerce Lex into signing a piece of paper that would divide his assets among 50 global charities, but Lex feigns that his pen is out of ink and grabs a gun from under his desk. Lex and the Green Arrow stand there, holding weapons on each other, before firing at the same time. Lex's bullet and Oliver's arrow pass really close together, before finding their respective targets simultaneously and throwing the two rivals backward. Oliver quickly retrieves a vial of RL65, healing himself, just as Clark arrives to find Lex bleeding out. Oliver tells Clark to let nature take its course, arguing that the world's better off without Lex Luthor. Clark points out that it's the drugs talking, and that Oliver's not a killer. Oliver retorts that Lex is, though, and insists that he needs the drug because he's not bulletproof like Clark. Nonplussed, Clark demands Oliver use the RL65 to save Lex, but Oliver informs him that Lex took the rest of it from Dr. Black's lab. So, Clark grabs Lex's briefcase, retrieving a vial and a syringe and using them on Lex. At first, Lex is unresponsive, and Clark thinks Oliver has killed Lex. But then, the drug kicks in, and Lex is fully healed. By the time that he comes to, though, Clark and Oliver are gone. The next day, Clark visits Oliver at his apartment. He asks whether he's dealing with Jekyll or Hyde, and Oliver indicates that he's back to normal. He says it was Clark that had actually made him come to his senses, explaining that he wanted to be more like Clark, to have the ability to bring justice to the world without worrying about getting killed in the process. But then, he says, he realized Clark would never takes someone's life. Clark assures Oliver that he doesn't need to be indestructible to be a hero, pointing to all the good that Oliver already does. Oliver realizes he should be thankful for the abilities he does have, and Clark replies, "Me too." Then, Clark invites Oliver to Thanksgiving dinner, saying that Lois would love to see him now that he's back on track. Oliver reminds him of Clark's previous lecture on secret identities and relationships, and Clark responds that he and Oliver are different, as are Lois and Lana. He says if Lois and Oliver are meant to be together, he won't stand in the way. At the Talon, meanwhile, Lana visits Chloe at her apartment. Chloe is about to reveal what she found out about the Second Chance Halfway House, but Lana isn't in the mood to hear it. Lana divulges that she's pregnant, and says she can't hear anything negative about Lex right now. The two hug as Lana cries on Chloe's shoulder.
Later, at the Kent Farm, Lois and Clark are bickering over a lumpy, burnt pie that Lois had baked, when the doorbell rings. While Lois goes to answer it, Chloe informs Clark that Dr. Black's killer was arrested, and turns out, it was "some kid" from the halfway house. Clark still suspects Lex was behind it somehow, but Chloe points out that even so, they won't be able to prove it, as Lex's shredders are probably working overtime. Clark then switches topics to Lana, mentioning seeing her upset the previous night and asking if she's okay. Trapped in the middle of her two friends, Chloe lies that Lana's fine. Judging by the look on his face, Clark doesn't entirely believe her, but he drops the subject anyway. Lois, meanwhile, finds Oliver outside the front door, flowers in hand. He assures her he's clean now, and apologizes for hurting her. The two hug, reconciling. At the dinner table, the Kents and their guests — Lois, Oliver, Chloe, and Lionel — sit down to enjoy the Thanksgiving feast. Clark, at the head of the table, asks for everyone's attention. He explains the family tradition of saying what they're most thankful for, and starts by saying that he's most thankful for his parents for instilling faith in himself. Then, Clark sits down, thankful to be surrounded by his loved ones. Meanwhile, at the Luthor Mansion, Lex and Lana sit down to a Thanksgiving dinner, waited on by servants and separated from each other by a long table. Lex asks if she's okay, since she apparently hasn't said a word all night. She lies that everything's fine, and the two raise their glasses in toast.
